Anxiety can come out of the blue - in everyday life, when driving or simply in a conversation. But what if there is no logical reason for it? In this article, you will find out why anxiety is rarely rational, what happens in the body and how hypnosis helps to get to the root of it.
When fear makes no sense
Many people experience moments when they suddenly feel anxiety for no apparent reason. The heart races, breathing becomes shallow, the body switches to alarm. And yet the mind knows that there is no reason for it. This is exactly what makes anxiety so unsettling.
What is often forgotten is that fear is not a weakness or a sign of a lack of courage. Fear is a reaction of the nervous system, it is a protective function that kicks in at the wrong moment because it is deeply rooted in the subconscious.
The true causes of anxiety lie deep
Studies show: Only a small proportion of our perceptions and decisions are made consciously. Estimates speak of around five percent. Around 95 percent happen unconsciously, shaped by experiences, emotions and old protective mechanisms. If a situation is even remotely reminiscent of something that was previously associated with danger, the body reacts automatically, even before we understand what is happening.
That's why it usually doesn't help much to simply think the fear away or talk yourself out of it. The subconscious has long since decided before the mind can intervene. Only when we start at this deeper level can anything really change.
What happens in the body
Anxiety is always physical. It activates the so-called sympathetic nervous system, the part of the nervous system responsible for flight or fight. Adrenaline and cortisol are released, the muscles tense up and breathing speeds up.
This reaction makes sense if there is a real threat of danger. However, if it is triggered by a harmless noise, a doctor's appointment or a conversation, a vicious circle is created: the body reports danger even though there is none and this increases the fear.
How hypnosis starts at the root
While many methods target the symptoms, hypnosis works where anxiety arises: in the subconscious (the 95%). In a state of deep relaxation, old reaction patterns can be reconnected and the original triggers neutralized.
The nervous system learns to react calmly to similar situations in the future without the familiar alarm reaction.
In my practice, I experience time and again how people suddenly feel after years of anxiety: "I can breathe freely again. My body feels calm and safe."
Why understanding is the first step
No longer condemning yourself for your fear, but recognizing it as an automatic protective mechanism is the beginning of any change. Because as soon as the inner resistance subsides, space for healing is created and this is exactly where hypnosis comes in.
